However, the use of meatless alternatives is by no means new. In some regions of Asia, a vegetarian diet is a centuries-old tradition. A long time ago, Buddhist monks in China, Japan and Korea have already started to create vegetable substitutes for meat. Seitan is made of wheat and tofu and tempeh are based on soy beans.
